The Grizzlies will miss Rudy Gay for the remainder of the season after the team announced that he will need surgery on his left shoulder.

The fifth-year star is expected to miss six months, but will be available for next season. The Grizzlies have not set a date for Gay's surgery.

Gay, 24, was averaging 19.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. His last game was on February 15th, against Philadelphia.

The team said surgery was a possibility if rehabilitation was unsuccessful.

The Grizzlies are currently the eight seed in the standings.
