There’s good news and bad news about James Gunn’s upcoming sequel, “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” The good news: We’ve got new details about the movie. The bad news: It’s still two years away.

The director took to the up-and-coming social media app Periscope to talk about the flick. Variety describes the app as a hybrid between Twitter and Snapchat, which unfortunately makes the app almost worthless for record keeping. But that didn’t stop some savvy fans from getting their hands on some news from the director about the upcoming sequel.

The biggest news from the director’s Q&A was the reveal that Nebula (Karan Gillan) will return in the sequel. When last we left Nebula, she’d just lost a fight to her sister Gamora (Zoe Saldana). While most villains in the original “Guardians of the Galaxy” met a not-so-stellar ending, Nebula managed to escape the final battle and jet off to parts unknown. So, she’s off somewhere in the galaxy seething with rage at her sister and the rest of the Guardians. In addition, she is desperately hiding from her father, the mad titan Thanos (Josh Brolin). She betrayed Thanos in the hopes that Ronan (Lee Pace), would be able to kill him for her. Spoiler alert: He doesn't.

Gunn wasn’t done teasing the new movie there. According to ScreenRant, he revealed that he’s very close to meeting with Marvel Studios to write the official first draft of the screenplay.

“I turned in my treatment. I’m going in to meet about it Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week,” he revealed. He also revealed that he’s already got 70 pages of the script done, at least as a first draft.

With Gunn enthusiastically hitting the throttle on “Guardians 2,” it seems like a bummer fans will have to wait until 2017 for the release of the summer blockbuster. In the meantime, Marvel fans will be treated to a slew of new movies starting with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1.
