“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” isn’t in theaters yet, but we already have confirmation of a third film. Director James Gunn revealed that he is writing and directing one more adventure for Star-Lord and the gang, and he even revealed a few vague spoilers.

First, Gunn revealed that the third “Guardians” flick is part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Much of what’s happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’” Gunn wrote on Facebook. “‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ will happen after all that.”

He also explained that it wraps up the story of the current “Guardians” lineup. That isn’t to say there won’t be others, though. It sounds like “Vol. 3” will also launch some new stories. “It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond,” Gunn added.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” follows a group of misfit aliens who team up to save the universe. The first film was a success critically and at the box office, raking in over $700 million worldwide. The second film, set to hit theaters in May, is predicted to earn $150 million in the U.S. its opening weekend.

“Vol. 2” will follow the gang as their families are explored. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) will meet his father, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell). Meanwhile, Thanos’ daughters Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) will work on their family feud.

Previously, Gunn has sounded unsure of whether he wanted to return for a third trip in the MCU. He had been sure that a third film would be ordered, but he was not positive he would helm it. “There will be a ‘Guardians 3 ,’ that’s for sure,” he told Complex last month. “We’re trying to figure it out. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing.” It looks like a third film is exactly what he wants to be doing.

Luckily, fans don’t have to wait until “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to see their favorite characters again. After “Vol. 2,” the gang will next be seen in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits theaters May 5.
