Thor Ragnarok Trailer
Some Marvel fans say the “Thor: Ragnarok” trailer is borrowing elements from “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Marvel

The debut trailer for Marvel’s upcoming “Thor: Ragnarok” premiered Monday, and while it has received praise, some Marvel fans are calling it “Thor: Guardians of the Galaxy.” Set to Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” some fans believe the trailer went for a more fun, “Guardians of the Galaxy”-like style.

“Stylistically, #ThorRagnarok looks so much like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and the Led Zeppelin backing track sure drives that home,” wrote one Twitter user. This can especially be seen when Thor learns he will be fighting the Hulk — a scene which would fit perfectly in the “Guardians” films thanks to its humor.

While the “Guardians of the Galaxy”-feel of the “Thor” trailer may have caught fans off-guard, perhaps we should have seen it coming after “Guardians” director James Gunn tweeted in March, “Yes. It might be the best @MarverStudios trailer ever,” when asked if he saw the “Ragnarok” trailer.

The trailer’s lighthearted tone also should not be a surprise after star Idris Elba, who plays Heimdall, said the film would be funnier than previous movies. “Heimdall isn’t funny. You haven’t heard Heimdall laugh, or crack too many jokes, he told Digital Spy. “But Taika [Waititi], the director, has done a really amazing job of making all the characters have a bit of a funny moment, and I’m not spared. I’m looking forward to it.”

Waititi, who has directed “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” and “Boy,” is known for his humor and will surely bring his style to the upcoming “Thor” film. “If someone asked, ‘What are your films like?’ the best I can come up with is that they’re, like, a fine balance between comedy and drama. And they deal mainly with the clumsiness of humanity,” he told The Guardian.

“Thor: Ragnarok” hits theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
