Karen Gillan thinks Nebula might be a little more understood after “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The actress said that her blue character’s family relationships will be explored in the sequel, and you better believe that Thanos’ daughters have been putting up with some crazy drama.

“I think we might even feel a tinge of sympathy towards Nebula this time, because we really start to see the emotional crack in her character,” Gillan told TheWrap.

The “Doctor Who” alum explained that the audience’s changing feelings have to do with Nebula’s adopted father Thanos (Josh Brolin). In the first “Guardians of the Galaxy,” it was clear that there was a sibling rivalry, and Thanos wasn’t helping by referring to Gamora (Zoe Saldana) as his favorite daughter. However, the family drama is a lot deeper than that.

“What I love about the second movie for Nebula in particular is that we get — We know that she’s a pretty angry woman with some daddy issues. [But] in the second movie, we’re going to start to see how much pain her father actually caused her, and we’re going to delve right into the relationship with her sister Gamora,” Gillan teased.

Nebula and Gamora aren’t the only ones dealing with a father figure. Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is going to meet his dad, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell). As previously reported, Funko Pop! figures reveal that Peter won’t be bonding with an actual planet. It looks like his dad will appear in human form. Ego still might not be exactly who Peter was picturing, though.

“You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family,” Pratt teased to Empire in August. “You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is set to hit theaters May 5.
