Two Hampden-Sydney College students are suffering from serious burns, after a fire blazed through a campus residence early Wednesday morning.

Kirk Rohle and Benjamin Rogers were identified as two students who were injured during the fire at TAC residence, the Richmond Times Dispatch reported.

Nine people were asleep inside the residence when the fire broke out, officials reported. Most students evacuated the building unharmed ,but Rohle and Rogers are being treated for their burns, according to WSET.

Ron Austin, a father of one of the students in the house, told WSET that one student woke up to the fire and alerted the rest.

According to his son one of the students in the house was missing when they did a head count, causing his friend to go back into the residence.

He had to crawl on the floor, so his stomach is not burned but his back and feet are because he was on the ground. I think the bottom of his feet are the worst, and his hands, he told WSET.

The school is investigating the cause of the fire but according to spokesman Thomas Shomo, early indications suggest the fire started with furniture on the front porch of the residence.

The college has postponed its football champion's dinner as players Ben Rogers and Kirk Rohle recover from their injuries, Eric Kolenich said in a tweet.

The students of the residence have moved to a fraternity on campus, while the cause of the fire is investigated.
