Most of the debris will be taken to Randall’s Island, where it will be sifted through for clues. Officials say the process could take up to a year. Reuters

CBS News has obtained security footage that captures the gas explosion that destroyed two buildings in New York City Wednesday.

In the video, you can see a man crossing the street as the East Harlem building explodes. He falls to his feet as debris flies and falls around him. Another angle also shows the man being knocked to the ground by the force of the explosion. A cloud of smoke can then be seen filling the air, the result of the buildings collapsing.

The cause of the explosion hasn’t yet been determined. But the New York Daily News reports that soil from the area contained high concentrations of natural gas, which supports officials' belief that a gas leak was the likely culprit.

Eight people were killed in the collapse and more than 50 were injured.
