It looks like Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) might finally be rescued on “Homeland.” In a promo for Season 4, episode 9, titled “There’s Something Else Going On,” the former CIA director is shown continuing to play an integral role in terrorist Haissam Haqqani’s (Numan Acar) prisoner exchange -- much to his dismay and Carrie Mathison’s (Claire Danes).

While Saul might finally be put out of harm’s way, Showtime’s synopsis for next Sunday’s installment doesn’t promise a smooth transaction. According to the network, Carrie will have to “improvise” in order to save the mission in Islamabad, but could that improvisation have something to do with saving Saul’s life? In the promo video, Saul can be seen with a crosshair on his chest and in another shot, his wife Mira Berenson (Sarita Choudhury) is shown on the phone in tears.

While viewers will have to wait until Sunday to learn Saul's fate, a sneak peek for episode 9 also teases the idea that Haqqani might have plans to kill him after the U.S. hands over his requested five Pakistani prisoners. In the clip, Carrie is en route to the location where the prisoner exchange is set to occur and tells Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) to stay at the U.S. embassy in order to keep an eye on the ISI from above.

“I need you in the ops rooms… [Look for] anything the ISI or the Haqqani might try. Maybe getting their guys back and keeping Saul. Maybe even killing Saul,” Carrie says. “I know there’s something else going on.”

With Carrie busy working on Saul’s release, the U.S. embassy will reportedly work on finding out who switched out her Bipolar medication. While Aasar Khan (Raza Jaffrey) admitted to Carrie that it was the U.S. Ambassador’s husband, Dennis Boyd (Mark Moses), who breached her privacy in episode 8, it appears it may take the CIA a little longer to discover the identity behind the the spy. “The CIA closes in on a leak,” teases the synopsis.

Season 4, episode 9 of “Homeland” airs Sunday, Nov. 23 at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
