Social media reacted strongly to the news that Homer and Marge, one of television’s longstanding couples, will reportedly call it quits in an episode of Season 27 of “The Simpsons” and the reason behind the split will be a Lena Dunham-voiced character. In a Sunday interview with Variety, Al Jean, the executive producer of the show, said that Homer will fall in love with his pharmacist, voiced by Dunham.

“In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham,” Jean told Variety. Season 27 Of "The Simpsons" will air on Fox this fall.

Homer was previously also seen considering cheating on Marge in the Season 5 episode, “The Last Temptation of Homer,” which was aired in 1993. He had gone as far as visiting the hotel room of a new co-worker Mindy, but had called off the plans after thinking about his loving wife and children, Daily Mail reported. However, this time the show is on its way to host a legal split between the cartoon couple.
