House of Cards
Media Rights Capital (MRC) has decided to extend the hiatus of “House of Cards” Season 6. Netflix

The hiatus for “House of Cards” Season 6 has been extended for another two weeks, and producer Media Rights Capital is asking for understanding from the entire cast and crew.

MRC and Netflix has suspended production for the political drama after lead star Kevin Spacey, who plays Frank Underwood, was swamped with sexual assault allegations, according to Entertainment Weekly.

On Nov. 26, MRC senior vice president of television business and legal affairs Pauline Micelli released the later announcing the extra two-week hiatus since investigation on Spacey’s sexual misconduct on the set is still ongoing. She said that they would provide an update on Dec. 8.

“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen,” the letter read. “The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”

Because Spacey was booted out of the show, the future of “House of Cards” remains “up in the air,” reported CNN. The showrunners are now “racing against the clock” to rewrite Season 6 without its biggest star. They are forced to scrap their eight-month plan in light of his scandals.

But all hope is not lost, because the showrunners can shift the attention to Frank’s wife, Claire (Robin Wright). Variety even reported that MRC is currently working on multiple ideas for a potential “House of Cards” spinoff.

They are currently in the early stages of development, and so far, ideas have started forming around Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), the political aide-de-camp of Frank Underwood (Spacey). Eric Roth, who served as an executive producer for the first four seasons of “House of Cards,” is set to write the script.

Spacey’s woes began after he was accused by actor Anthony Rapp, 46, of sexual misconduct dating back to 1986. Rapp, who was 14 then while Spacey was 26, claimed that Spacey harassed him at a party when he was carried “up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold.”

After his confession, several crew members of “House of Cards” also came forward and accused Spacey of “predatory” behaviour on the set.
