how to save your vines
Here’s how you can save your existing Vines. Vine

Vine was taking its last breath Tuesday.

Twitter was scheduled to shut down the video-looping app and replace it with Vine Camera. Users will still be able to record their six-second video clips, but they will only be able to upload those videos to Twitter and/or save them to their camera rolls. In other words, although you can still post Vines to Twitter, the stand-alone Vine feed will cease to be.

Vine users can still download their favorite videos to their cameras before Vine goes away for good. Here’s how:

If you want to save the videos to your computer, go to the Vine website. There’s a download link at the top, right-hand corner of the website, which will allow you to save your favorite videos with captions and likes.

If you’d rather save the vine through your phone, go to your app profile. Once you’re there, tap “save videos” and save them to your gallery.

After that, you’ll have the option to select all of your videos by tapping the button on the top, right-hand corner of your screen. Of course, if you don’t have enough room on your phone, you can always select specific videos you’d like to save — or delete screenshots and ugly selfies in your camera roll to make room for the videos on your phone. Then, click save.

Twitter announced that it will keep videos up on the Vine website, but there’s no guarantee as to how long they’ll be archived. Any changes will be announced beforehand, according to Twitter.

The social media giant acquired Vine in October 2012, but the app struggled to make money because the short videos were not viable to advertisers.

In its prime, the Vine app helped funny and creative videos to go viral, as well as Vine stars into Internet fame, sometimes even kickstarting their careers. Those Vine creators, including Brittany Funlan, Thomas Sanders and Young Poppy, mourned the death of the app when Twitter announced in October that it would be shut down.
