Implant Sciences Corp. (AMEX: IMX) announced on Thursday that it received a purchase order for 30 handheld explosives detectors from an undisclosed customer in Asia.

Once shipped, the Wakefield, Mass.- based company said the order of Quantum Sniffer detectors would bring the total number of installed units in Asia to approximately 176. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"We are encouraged by the positive feedback from our previous installations in the Asian market and are hopeful that we will meet with continued success in calendar 2007, Joanne Arsenault a company vice president said in a statement.

Many of the company's detectors are currently being used in railway transportation and law enforcement applications. The firm said it believed the current order would be used for aviation applications.

CEO Dr. Anthony J. Armini, PhD, said he expected that there would be increased demand for trace detection equipment in 2007, despite lower than expected demand in 2006.

The firm is a developer and manufacturer of products for security, semiconductor and medical industries.
