Angelina Jolie being cast as Maleficent may be a perfect fit, but the actress cast to play the young Maleficent may be even better. Not only does 18-year-old India Eisley look strikingly similar to a young Jolie, the two actresses have some other similarities.
Maleficent, due to hit theaters in 2014, is a live action film based upon Sleeping Beauty, but will focus more on Maleficent and why she eventually became evil.
Eisley, who comes from an acting family like Jolie, got her start in the movie Headspace in which she appeared with her mother Olivia Hussey, who is still best known for her role in the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet. Her father, David Glen Eisley, had a hit single in the 1980s with his band Guiffria called Call to the Heart.
After appearing in Headspace with her mother, Eisley landed a few smaller roles in movies before being cast in The Secret Life of an American Teenager in 2008. On the show Eisley plays Ashley Juergens. Eisley also had a small role this year with Kate Beckinsale in Underworld: Awakening.
Eisley, who looks very similar to Jolie, is also the same age now as Jolie was when Eisley was born in 1993.
Jolie has already talked about her excitement about playing the role.
It's not anti-princess, Jolie told Entertainment Weekly. But it's the first time they're looking at this epic woman. I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn't mean she can't have other qualities.
It's a really great script, Jolie continued. I'm having a lot of fun. I've already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy.
