Ever since Apple released the iOS 5.1 update, many people have upgraded their firmware to the latest version and those who love jailbreak must be waiting restlessly for an untethered solution for their devices.

As per the status updates from iOS hackers like Pod2g and Chpwn, the progress for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is progressing well. In his recent updates, Pod2g said that he and his team are now in possession of all the required exploits to start working on a new jailbreak. He even said that he had successfully bypassed iOS 5.1′s ASLR (Address Space layout randomization), giving awaiting users another reason to believe that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 is not too far away.

However, a new concern has come up regarding the release of a new jailbreak for iOS 5.1, which has caused Pod2g to update his official blog with a public poll asking: Shall we hold off the jailbreak for iOS 6?

According to Redmond Pie, with the Worldwide Developer Conference around the corner and the next iPhone set for launch sometime later this year, chances are that we could see an introduction of iOS 6. And this is where the problem lies.

Many people would say that producing the jailbreak and releasing it for the public would be the best option to go with. But Pod2g believes that if the new jailbreak is released before iOS 6, the exploits will almost certainly be patched up in the new version of the OS. If that happens, the iOS hackers, working on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak, will have to start all over again.

Keeping that in mind, Pod2g has updated his blog with a poll, asking for opinions from the jailbreak community on releasing the new jailbreak. He wants to know if users want him and his team to wait for Apple to introduce iOS 6 before they release an iOS 5.1 jailbreak, hoping that the exploits they've found could still be relevant to the new version.

The jailbreak community appears to have been split by Pod2g's question. At the time of reporting, 78,184 voters responded, with 44,609 (57 percent) of them wanting the jailbreak to be released immediately and 31,587 (40 percent) of them believing that the hackers should hold off until iOS 6 is released. Only 1,988 (2 percent) of the voters seem like they don't care about anything at all.

The poll is still up and there are five more days left for it to close. As iDownloadBlog noted, the result of the poll will play a key role in the decision of when to release the next jailbreak.
