A leaked document for Apple Stores appears to strongly hint at the release of smart battery cases for the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max.

When Apple unveiled the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in September, many users weren’t impressed by the fact that they were outfitted with a 2,658mAh and 3,174mAh batteries, respectively. By today’s standards, such batteries are regarded small. However, Apple justified its decision to use smaller batteries for its iPhones by pointing to the phones's power-efficient processors and software.

Nevertheless, it seems Apple has heard what many users have been complaining about their smartphones’ limited juice. Apple-centric blog Appleosophy recently spotted a leaked document for Apple Stores that contains images of upcoming smart battery cases for the current-generation flagships.

The document is a product merchandising guide that teaches Apple Premium Resellers how to properly organize the different leather and silicone cases for the various iPhone models, from the iPhone 7 through the iPhone XS Max, in store shelves. What’s interesting is that the guide includes images of what appear to be smart battery cases for the 2018 flagship models.

There are no written descriptions for the new cases. The leaked images are also of low resolution. However, MacRumors pointed out that they seem to have battery pack humps and cutouts for the vertically-aligned rear camera modules of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The guide lists these upcoming items under the leather products category. But this could be a mistake, since the two appear to be made of silicone in the leaked photos. They also resemble the silicone smart battery cases for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6.

Since the title of the document includes the words “Fall 2018,” it is believed that the new smart battery accessories were supposed to debut alongside the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in September. But since the season officially ends this Friday, it’s unlikely for Apple to launch the new products before Christmas or New Year, according to AppleInsider.

By the look of things, Apple may have decided to delay the release of the new smart battery cases. Or it just decided to scrap the accessories before they were even announced to the public. Owners of the current iPhone flagships are still hopeful that Apple would launch the new smart battery cases, so they could extend the battery life of their iPhones.
