International pop icon Katy Perry and Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan are scheduled to perform at the opening gala of Indian Premier League's season 5 in Chennai, India, Wednesday.

The 27-year-old hot pop sensation is extremely delighted for her first ever performance in India. After what felt like longest flight ever I'm finally here! Honored 2 play CHENNAI 2morrow! This is my 1ST performance in INDIA, she tweeted.

Meanwhile, Bachchan is busy rehearsing for the grand opening. At rehearsal for IPL ... looking grand ... can hardly spot anyone, he tweeted with a picture of rehearsal.

The 69-year-old superstar, who underwent an intestine surgery recently, is expected to kick-start the ceremony with a poem on cricket and Perry will reportedly perform for 45 minutes.

IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said, A performer of her (Katy Perry) caliber makes the occasion even more special for the IPL family -- players, organizers and fans. The verve and originality of her music matches that of the competition and we look forward to an inspired performance from her.

We look forward to Ms. Perry's participation at the DLF IPL 2012 Opening Nite, Shukla said in a statement.

The show will begin at 7:30 pm IST and the season 5 will feature 76 matches in total from April 4 to May 27 across 12 venues in India.
