French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday night. It is her first child with her husband French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The UK's Guardian reported that Sarkozy, 56, flew back to France from Germany to see his newborn daughter.

Bruni-Sarkozy, 43, confirmed the pregnancy back in July. It is reported that she delivered the baby between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the La Muette private clinic.

The baby girl's name is unknown at this.

People.com reported that the baby girl is the first child born to a ruling French leader since Napoleon. The Mirror reported that Bruni-Sarkozy is the first serving first lady of France to have a baby.

Bruni-Sarkozy married the French President in February 2008. Sarkozy has three children from two previous marriages and Bruni-Sarkozy has a son from a previous relationship.

The former model has said, prior to giving birth, that she will not be releasing photos of the baby.
