James Franco is heading back to "General Hospital" to reprise his role.

A representative for ABC soap told TV Guide Magazine that Franco will be back on Sept. 20 for a "long term" story arc.

In the nearly 50-year-old soap, Franco plays a performance artist and serial killer Robert "Franco" Frank who has crush on the sexy hit man Jason Morgan, played by Steve Burton. Franco will be returning at a time when Jason is ready to marry Sam McCall, played by Kelly Monaco.

The ABC representative told TV Guide Magazine that this is Franco's "most twisted plan yet" and that he'll likely be pulling other characters into his web. Those characters could include Maxie Jones, played by Kirsten Storms, and Carly Jacks, whose character is played by Laura Wright, and her baby Josslyn.

Franco started on "General Hospital" in 2009, and had a two-day cameo in February.

This fall, Franco will open on Broadway opposite Nicole Kidman in a remake of Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth.
