Jamie Foxx gave an update on his upcoming movie about the legendary boxer Mike Tyson.

The Oscar winner is already preparing to play Tyson in the latter’s biopic. Foxx put on considerable weight for the role. According to the actor, they were about to start filming, but the production was forced to halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with Showtime’s “All the Smoke,” the singer-actor shared his conversation with Tyson about the project.

“When we were talking about the movie, I said what’s interesting about Mike is not the ring now, it’s the Mike that we see now,” Foxx said of the boxer, as quoted by World Boxing News.

“When I called Mike one time, I said ‘Mike, how are you doing?’ – And it’s this voice ‘All praise to Allah, my brother I’m just happy’.”

When Foxx asked Tyson why he was happy, the latter said he has no money anymore so no one can take anything from him anymore.

“There are no vultures. Nobody out there trying to take anything from me. So I’m just happy,’” Tyson explained.

“I said ‘that’s the person we’ve got to show’. He’ll tell you ‘I either live on top of the mountain or on the bottom of the ocean,’” Foxx said.

“I said to Mike ‘when I play you, I’m going to embody you so well that when I walk into your house your kids will run up and say dad’s home.”

Foxx then revealed what they want to achieve by making the biopic.

“We want to show everybody evolves. Everybody comes from a good or bad place,” Foxx continued.

“I think when we lay the layers on Mike Tyson in this story, I think everybody from young and old will be able to understand this man’s journey and the way we’ll place it.”

Martin Scorsese hasn’t done a boxing film since “Raging Bull,” but he agreed to work with Foxx and direct Tyson’s biopic.

Meanwhile, just recently, Foxx called out his friend Kanye West for planning to join the presidential race. Stephen Jackson slammed the “Gold Digger” rapper’s presidential bid on Instagram by calling him “Kanye Trump.”

“Fool u once shame on them fool u twice u and 2x fool,” Jackson wrote.

“Gottdamn right!!! Ain’t got time for the bulls—-t!!!” Foxx commented.
