Jamie Lynn Spears's pregnancy was one of the most controversial episodes to hit Hollywood. The Disney star, and sister of pop icon Britney Spears, was just 16 when she announced that she was pregnant with her first baby with then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge. One newspaper called Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy the most high-profile out-of-wedlock teen pregnancy in Hollywood history.

After all the hoopla subsided (and there was a lot of hoopla ) Jamie Lynn Spears disappeared. She left Tinseltown behind to become a mom. In a new, candid interview with Glamour magazine, Jamie Lynn Spears opens up about life as a teenage mom, showing the world that she is not a little girl anymore.

I was 16 [when I got pregnant]. I'd had one boyfriend. It doesn't make it perfect or all right. But I was judged for something that probably most everyone does. I was young. I was in love. I was like every other teenager, except I had this last name. And I made a decision that is forever my decision, said the now 21-year-old.

In 2008, Spears and Aldridge moved to Mississippi and got engaged. Baby Maddie Briann Aldridge was born on June 19. Lynn insists that she never tried to glamorize teen pregnancy. She gave OK! Magazine her first post-baby interview and many criticized the move, saying that Lynn - star of the teen show Zoey 101 - was promoting something taboo.

It was Spears' decision to step out of the limelight. All she wanted to focus on was being the best mother possible to little Maddie.

I just wanted to get away from it as much as I could, to just go away and be a mom and figure out what I wanted, and to earn a sense of respect back for myself, she said. Move to a town in the middle of nowhere and just raise my child. All I could be was a good mother.

Spears talked about how she and Aldridge were faced with such a difficult challenge at such a young age that there was slim chance it would actually work. Now, she is a single mom, raising Maddie on her own. She said that she does not date often because she is not ready to bring a man, other than Price Charming, home to Maddie.

Luckily, Jamie Lynn has her family and big sister Britney, to lean on. Maddie and her cousins, Britney's children Preston and JJ, are extremely close.

Spears then touched on the infamous MTV show, Teen Mom, saying that she (of course) relates to everything they go through.

Oh my God, I cannot wait to see this show because there's someone else out there. I mean, I feel for those girls. I've been that girl, Spears said.

It does show that motherhood is hard. There were so many times-especially when Maddie would get sick-when I would cry to myself and think, I really don't know what to do. It takes bravery to be a young mom, and it does take bravery to let the world watch.

Right now, Jamie Lynn Spears is working on her music career, writing lyrics and recording songs. She said that her lyrics now are more honest than ever. I write about growing up, my family, Maddie and getting pregnant. If I've lived it, why wouldn't I talk about it? I guess that's been the coolest thing-realizing that it's OK to just be myself and really tell my story.

Spears told Glamour that both she and sister Britney are in great places right now. [As for Britney], she's in such a good place right now. She's in love. She has her kids. So I'm happy for her, she said. Of course, [our bond as mothers], it's such a big thing, you know? Especially 'cause there's an age gap there-she's 10 years older. I think if I were just a normal 20-year-old, I wouldn't be able to relate as much to her.
