Team Rafael fans were broken hearted after Jane Gloriana Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) finally chose to wed Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) in the Season 2 finale of “Jane the Virgin.”

They might still hold out some hope that Jane will rekindle her feelings for Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni), but showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman teased that they won’t let Rafael waste his time pining over his newly-married ex-girlfriend.

“He has a great storyline that I'm really excited about,” Urman told The Hollywood Reporter. “Of course, we first have to play out the Anezka-Petra storyline… Beyond that, there is this new relationship that he has to deal with.”

The showrunner said this year is going to be pretty big for Rafael because he watched Jane walk down the aisle and marry someone else. He is now thinking of moving on, since a lot of time has passed with him pursuing Jane.

Urman said Rafael’s new shift will affect his co-parenting with Jane. In the past, he let her have her way because he was in love with her and wanted to make her happy.

“He's going to try to come out of that and that's going to make all their interactions richer and more equal and deeper and allow for new dynamics in their relationship and also makes certain things more difficult and we'll be playing that out; Rafael definitely has some big romantic moves this year,” teased Urman.

As for Jane, she’ll be undergoing some changes, too. “She does lose her virginity this year,” Urman told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s in the first half of the season, and it’s quite a big episode for us.”

Because of this physical change, Rodriguez told The Columbus Dispatch that her character will be growing up in a big way this season. ‘‘Jane is making big moves when it comes to her own life and identity,’’ the actress said.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
