Jane the Virgin
After a long and winding romance, Xo and Ro finally got engaged on “Jane the Virgin” Season 3. The CW

As devastating as it was to lose Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) in “Jane the Virgin” Season 3, fans at least rejoiced over the fact that Xiomara Villanueva (Andrea Navedo) and Rogelio Dela Vega (Jaime Camil) are back in each other’s arms.

In fact, the two had a very sweet engagement this season, with Xo presenting Rogelio with her father’s old ring. But given the show’s notorious twists and turns, will the two even make it to the altar?

Camil told the Gold Derby that he, along with the fans, would love to see the two become Mr. and Mrs. Dela Vega. However, he refused to answer whether the wedding will take place during the season finale or not. “We have finished shooting the season so I know exactly what’s going to happen … something’s going to go down in the season finale, and you’ll see it’s going to be very cool,” he teased.

As for Rogelio’s daughter Jane, Camil said that he has come to terms with the fact that she might end up with Rafael. Everybody actually belonged to Team Michael right from the start, but after he passed away, the idea of Jane and Rafael together doesn’t seem so bad.

“I think the fans and everybody are expecting Jane to end up with [her son’s father] Rafael,” said Camil. Even Rogelio is the same way, bonding with Rafael “first and foremost because he’s very handsome.”

It would probably take a while for fans to get over the heartbreak of losing Michael. Even Dier himself was devastated over the character’s loss. “When I had to do the death scene, after that scene I cried because I was like ‘Wow, this is really happening. This is it,’” he shared.

The actor explained that after having played Michael for so long, it felt like the character was already an extension of himself. So losing him was like losing a part of himself. “He became a part of me,” he said. “Almost like a friend of mine. So knowing he was going to die, I really wanted to make each moment true. I wanted to commit even more to this guy and make it special.”

Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman earlier explained that Michael’s death was essential in building up Jane’s storyline. “It’s an important moment in the evolution of this woman, who believed so wholeheartedly in romance and in happily ever after. How does one move on from this overwhelming loss and believe in magic again?” she told Vulture.

Still, she assured fans that they have not seen the last of Michael since he will still appear in flashbacks throughout the series. Urman told Vulture that she will still find ways to incorporate Michael into the storyline moving forward. “Oh, for sure. For sure. Exactly. In her fantasies. And you will feel him, I will say, very, very much, as we continue,” she said.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
