Before Kanye West recently went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to hash out the problems the two apparently have been having lately, Kimmel thought it would be fun to have celebrities read mean tweets about themselves in a video. Well, he was right, it is pretty funny. Given that West was the guest of honor, and one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, it was certainly poetic to show people how cruel some can be to celebrities through social media.

The flagship offering of the soon-to-be-publicly traded company, Twitter Inc., is a microblogging social-media site that allows its users to directly connect to their favorite celebrities. Whether they use that opportunity to praise them or tear them down is totally up to the tweeter. More often than not, Twitter users have very strong opinions and aren’t afraid to tweet them. With the Twitter initial public offering launching soon, the site’s users are taking the opportunity to speak their minds as much or even more than ever before.

Kimmel, known for his hilarious spoofs, pranks and celebrity videos, just released his latest installment of “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets,” a segment with celebrities such as Selena Gomez, John Legend, Adam Levine, Pharrell and others read aloud what people have written about them on Twitter. It may not be pretty, but it is hilarious.
