Kate Middleton made her first solo public appearance since marrying Prince William and becoming the Duchess of Cambridge when she attended a preview of Lucian Freud paintings at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Wednesday. The 30-year-old royal was picture perfect beauty as she stood out in her gray Jesire coat dress and four-inch heels. (See her outfit here).

The National Portrait Gallery is one of several charities Middleton officially supports. Middleton studied art history at the University of St. Andrews.

Us Weekly reported that Middleton spoke with photographer Mary McCartney and Freud's daughter, Bella Freud, while inside the museum.

Middleton is usually seen out and about with her husband. However, the handsome Prince, who is also a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot, is currently deployed in the Falkland Islands where is undergoing training.

The Freud exhibit will be open to the public tomorrow, according to reports.
