Katy Perry recently came under fire on social media after she jokingly compared her “old, black hair” to former president Barack Obama.

Just recently, Perry went for a lighter shade and got a pixie cut. During one of her live video sessions on Instagram, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer said that someone told her that her black hair is being missed. Perry replied by saying, “Oh, do you miss Barack Obama as well? Okay, times change. Bye.” According to People, Perry threw shade to those who prefer former president Obama over President Donald Trump in her statement.

Perry has been vocal about her support for the former president. In fact, she performed at a rally during Obama’s 2012 campaign. She was also present at a White House reception for the Special Olympics last year. To add to this, Perry has also expressed her dislike for Trump by supporting various marches and fundraisers organized against the president of the United States. However, the singer’s recent joke did not sit well with her millions of fans on social media. As of late, the singer has not yet issued an apology.

This is not the first time that Perry was tagged in a controversy. In 2013, she was also criticized for performing in a geisha-inspired attire at the American Music Awards and was accused of cultural appropriation.

Meanwhile, other than the recent criticism she received, Perry also made headlines for releasing her second single, “Bon Appétit,” off her upcoming fourth studio album on Friday. In an attempt to promote her newest track, Perry went to Times Square to hand out cherry pies to fans. Prior to her arrival at Times Square, Perry already hinted that she’s about to do something fun. She posted the words “Open 24” alongside a photo of a colorful food truck at the location.

Perry’s food truck has the phrase “World’s Best Cherry Pie” painted on it. It was positioned right outside American Eagle Outfitters and just a few feet away from the red TKTS stairs. Perry’s “Bon Appétit” song blasted on the speakers while thousands of people lined up on both sides of the vehicle. The cherry pies that were distributed by the “Roar” singer were baked by Sweetery NYC. A few hours later, Perry arrived with so much energy. At one point, she even instructed one of the caretakers to raise the baby she was taking care of like what Rafiki did to Simba in “The Lion King,” according to Billboard.

Additionally, Perry also made headlines earlier this year when she announced her split from Orlando Bloom. Perry and Bloom issued a joint statement announcing their decision to go on break. “Before rumors of falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time,” they wrote exclusively to People.

A few weeks later, Bloom told Elle UK that he and Perry have decided to stay friends. “We’re friends. It’s good. We’re all grown up. She happens to be someone who is very visible, but I don’t think anybody cares about what I’m up to. Nor should they. It’s between us,” he said.
