Katy Perry will take the stage Sunday during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, one of the most closely watched musical performances of the year. More than 115 million viewers are expected to tune in as the "Roar" singer struts across the stage.

For those less than familiar with Perry's overture, where have you been? Her 2008 debut "I Kissed A Girl" kicked off more than six years of pop culture dominance, with subsequent hits "Hot N Cold," "Teenage Dream," and "California Gurls" cementing her status as a global music force. She's the only female artist to have five No. 1 singles from one album on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to NFL.com.

With her halftime performance, Perry joins an elite set of performers who have graced the Super Bowl stage, including Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Madonna, the Who, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.  "I feel like I've outdreamt my dream," Perry told ESPN of the opportunity. "I don't get nervous about much, but I'll definitely be a little tingly inside that day."

She should be nervous. Last year's Bruno Mars halftime show had a record 115.3 million viewers, compared with only 112.2 million people who watched the actual game, according to Rolling Stone. It's unclear how many songs Perry will perform. In 2013, Beyoncé belted out nine of her songs, while Bruno Mars crooned out a mere four hits.

Perry has been touring the world on the Prismatic World Tour in recent months but will arrive in Arizona to take on the Super Bowl on Sunday.
