Recap: Overcoming a hostile crowd and some tight early rounds that could have gone either way, Errol Spence (22-0, 19 KOs) won the IBF welterweight title in an 11th-round technical knockout over Kell Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) on Saturday night at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England.

Spence showed poise in front of over 30,000 spectators that were almost entirely supporting Brook, a Sheffield native. The fight was extremely close for most of the rounds and many rounds could have gone either way.

The 10th round essentially decided the fight. An inspired Spence went on a barrage, pummeling Brook with shots to the face and body that forced Brook to take a knee. The Brit's left eye was swelling from the southpaw's punches, a serious situation considering Gennady Golovkin did damage to Brook's right eye when they fought in September. Spence absorbed some solid punches as Brook battled back, but it was not enough to keep the fight competitive.

In the 11th round, Spence simply kept the pressure on and Brook couldn't continue due to his eye. At 1:47, referee Howard Foster called the fight with Brook's eye looking bruised.

Spence was effective with his jab for most of the fight and attacked in the later rounds with some impressive combinations. However, Brook kept the fight very close for much of the first nine rounds by landing solid uppercuts and hard overhand rights.

All three judges scored the right for Spence, but the scorecards were almost even. Judge Adalaide Byrd scored the fight 97-92, Judge Alejandro Lopez scored the fight 96-93, and Judge Dave Parris scored it 95-94. International Business Times scored the fight, 97-92.

Spence barely celebrated after the fight ended. The 27-year-old referenced a long layoff for perhaps some problems dealing with Brook and gave himself a B- grade for his effort.

"He's a tricky fighter. He's awkward. He's very strong and he can punch," said Spence of Brook. "But I proved today that I have a chin and I have true grit."

It was easily the biggest win of Spence's career. The Texan said he hoped to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Keith Thurman next.

Brook is a hard-nosed veteran who has mostly dominated welterweights before his loss to Gennady Golovkin at 160 pounds in 2016. The 31-year-old is known for his ability to making quick work of his opponents with his strong combinations. Sheffield is a blue-collar town and there will be a strong contingent supporting one of their own.

Las Vegas oddsmakers give Spence the edge with VegasInsider.com listing Brook as a 2-1 underdog.

Howard Foster is the referee. The judges are Adalaide Byrd, Alejandro Lopez and Dave Parris.

Showtime owns the broadcast rights to the fight. The main event is expected to begin at close to 5:30 p.m. ET.

Here is how International Business Times scores the Brook-Spence 12-round fight:

Round 1

Brook is a bit more aggressive in the opening minute. Spence went to the body, which seems like a smart strategy. It's a very tough round to call. Perhaps Spence did a little bit more.

Spence, 10-9

Round 2

Brook was more active in the first minute, while Spence continues to attack the body. This round belongs to Brook because he seemed to keep Spence on the defensive, landing more good jab. He also threw what it seemed like more power punches.

Brook, 10-9

Round 3

While Brook was able to connect on a good right, this round belongs to Spence. He spent most of the round showing more activity throwing a wide range of punches. Spence seemed to slow down towards the end. Still a very, very tight fight.

Spence, 10-9

Round 4

Opening minute belonged to Spence, with some good shots to the body. Lots of holding as the fight as been void of great power punches. Brook was able to land some good punches, including a solid uppercut, in the final minute. This remains a fight that could go either way.

Brook, 10-9

Round 5

Yet another close round. Brook controlled most of the action in the first two minutes. But a flurry from Spence might have been the best set of combinations of the fight. Still very difficult to accurately assess because there haven't been any big punches.

Spence, 10-9

Round 6

Brook stunned Spence in the opening moments of the round. However, Spence recovered and seemed to put Brook into trouble. This was the most exciting round of the fight. Lots of solid punches from both fighters. Spence seemed to get the better end of some exchanges. Brook is resilient through Spence's aggression. Spence landed his most punches of the fight.

Spence, 10-9

Round 7

This fight has been infuriating because of how close it has been. Brook managed to connect on a lead uppercut on the southpaw. Brook seemed to land more punches of consequence in this round. Very, very close fight. Spence seems a little frustrated.

Brook, 10-9

Round 8

Brook had a flurry in the first minute. Spence seemed to respond the second half of the round. Brook had a good lead round, yet the round seemed to be in Spence's favor.

Spence, 10-9

Round 9

This has been a brutally close fight. Brook's left eye is swelling after so much jabbing from Spence. And Spence took advantage, with the only obvious one-sided round of the fight. Spence was clearly the aggressor and Brook seemed to be hurt by the barrage.

Spence, 10-9

Round 10

Down goes Brook! He took a knee after a barrage of punches. Spence kept the pressure on and it almost looked like Brook wouldn't last. However, he showed courage to land a couple good right hands that seemed to hurt Spence as the crowd willed Brook. But the round clearly belonged to Spence. He dominated and the fight appears to be nearing the end.

Spence, 10-8

Round 11

Brook was able to land a good punch, but he is in pain. His eye doesn't look good. Brook had to take a knee because of his eye. It's simply too much for Brook at 1:47.
