Kim Clijsters, the second-ranked women's tennis player in the world, had to withdraw from this month's Wimbledon tournament due to a recurring foot injury.

If healthy, Clijsters would enter the U.S. Open in New York City as the reigning champion. She also won the Australian Open in January.

At this moment I feel frustrated that it has to happen now before one of my favourite tournaments, Clijsters said in a statement released Wednesday. I've always enjoyed being a part of the Wimbledon atmosphere but I have no other choice now but to rest, recover and to not play tennis for a few weeks.
