Kim Kardashian wrote an emotion-filled email to her family hours before filing for divorce, writing that she was embarrassed that [she] took everyone on this journey.

TMZ has learned the details of the weepy email, which Kardashian sent to members of her extended family on her father's side, though it does not name a specific source.

The starlet apologized for jumping the gun.

She also insisted that her unhappiness had been pervasive. I know this seems crazy ... I've spent the last few months struggling with my marriage.

Kris is a great guy but we come from such different worlds and he isn't what I thought when we 1st met, she continued.

I'm embarrassed that I took everyone on this journey with me and had this huge wedding. But I have to be happy, so I have to let this relationship go.

Kim wrote the email soon before she filed for divorce at the California court on Oct. 31, one year to the day that she and Humphries first met.

I would rather you hear it from me than someone else or the news, she wrote to relatives.

The Kardashian/Humphries August wedding boasted a 400 person guest list, which included Ryan Seacrest, Julianne Hough, Eva Longoria, Demi Lovato, and Vera Wang.

Many etiquette experts are saying Kardashian should return the extravagant gifts to the wedding guests given the measly length of the marriage.

The Dream Foundation told ABC News that the beautiful divorcee has reached out to them to make a donation, in a flattering statement about the starlet.

It comes to no surprise to Dream Foundation that Kim would take a difficult and trying situation and turn it into something tremendously positive and impactful to the families we serve, the foundation's president, Thomas W. Rollerson, said in a statement quoted by ABC News. We are sorry for the circumstances surrounding this contribution, yet this is Kim's way of paying forward the gestures of love that were bestowed to her.

The reality star is not giving the Dream Foundation her actual gifts. Instead, she is giving a symbolic donation in the value of the gifts she received. When ABC News asked how much this amounted to, Rollerson responded via email ALLOT! :)

The money is set to be wired in this morning.

The final total of the wedding gifts is unknown. Kardashian's registry included insanely expensive items such as a $1,650 coffeepot, $7,850 Baccarat vase, and a $1,100 ashtray. The original estimate was over $65,000. However, including personal checks, Kardashian probably received even more than that.

Her donation to the Dream Foundation will not include the money she reportedly made from selling the media rights to her wedding, notes ABC News (though Kris Kardashian has vehemently denied, in a recent publicity tour, that Kim made any money off her wedding at all).

And Rollerson had nothing but praise for Kim.

For years, Kim has been one of our most dedicated and ready supporters, not only in contributions, but also in the lending of her time and generous heart, he said. We have personally witnessed her holding hands and comforting terminally ill adults, offering compassion, kindness and acknowledgment to the end of life journey.

It is by those acts that a person should be judged - and we are blessed to have Kim as a part of our service.

Of course, this recent revelation begs some questions. Is this a sign that Kim did not marry for money and simply made an unfortunate, public mistake? Is it an odd coincidence that, after much public criticism, this private email somehow leaked? Is the donation just one more attempt at damage control?

It's hard to keep up with the Kardashians these days.
