The Knick
Brockhurst (Fred Weller, right) demands that Thackery (Clive Owen, left) return his girls in episode 8 of "The Knick" Season 2. Cinemax

Dr. Thackery (Clive Owen) has been a man of many obsessions in Season 2 of Cinemax's "The Knick," bouncing from one project to another curing syphilis, separating conjoined twins, and chasing an answer for addiction. That is a lot to take on and Thackery will be a very busy man in episode 8, "Not Well at All."

According to the synopsis for the episode, sleazy side show proprietor Brockhurst (Fred Weller) returns to the Knickerbocker to demand the return of his “girls.” By girls, he means, Zoya (Miranda Gruss) and Nika (Rebecca Gruss), the conjoined twins he was previously exploiting for a quick buck. Little does Brockhurst know that since he was last at the hospital, the girls are no longer conjoined twins, but physically separated individuals, thanks to Thack's surgical ingenuity. However, Brockhurst does not figure to be too pleased that Thackery has killed his golden goose. In the promo for the episode he is waving a gun around the lobby of the Knick and threatening to shoot Thackery.

Meanwhile, the synopsis also reveals that Thackery experiments with a new kind of cure for his addiction patients. Will this be a further extension of his hypnosis treatment, which seemed to be actually working in episode 7? Or is this the storyline teased by the ominous shot of opium in the episode's promo?

Plus, as if that was not already enough to put on Thackery's plate. His new (old) love, Abigail (Jennifer Ferrin), whom he proudly took on his arm at the hospital fundraiser ball in episode 7, wants what amounts to modern day cosmetic surgery. After the ball, Abby confessed that she is still very self conscious about her deformed nose -- her nose had to be cut off during her syphilis treatment and Thackery fashioned a crude replacement via a skin graft using skin from her arm. Now Abby wants some aesthetic improvements and from the shot of her on an operating table in the promo it looks like Thack will oblige. Earlier in the season, while Thackery was still in the drug rehab facility, he was performing under-the-table cosmetic surgery for spare cash, so he should have had a lot of practice.
