Shawn Schneider, a Lake City police officer, remains in critical condition following a shooting at a Minn. home Tuesday.

Schneider and a second officer went to a West Lyon Avenue home in response to reports of a domestic dispute involving a handgun. When the two officers arrived at the home in Lake City, there was a woman and man inside the house. A woman escaped to the police car prior to the shooting and was not harmed due in part to Schneider's assistance reports WXOW.

Officer Schneider, however, was shot following the woman's escape. The 32-year-old police officer suffered a head wound and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Following the shooting, authorities entered the Lake City home to find Alan Sylte Jr. of Hager City, Wis. Sylte is the suspected gunman. He was found dead by police of an alleged self-inflicted gunshot reports the Associated Press.

Schneider has been a part of the Lake City Police Department for nine years. He is married and has three children.

He's holding his own. He's got a lot of support over there and he's got a lot of support from within his community and the police department itself, Chief Gary Majcrzak told KAAL-TV.
