French economist and politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn is facing a trying time as he is under house arrest for allegations of sexually assaulting a hotel maid.

Earlier, Strauss-Kahn had spent over four days in New York's Rikers' island jail and was released only after payment of $1 million cash bail. In addition, he also had to pay $5 million insurance bond to cater to his own security expenses during his period of house arrest.

Strauss-Kahn was hoping that he would be able to serve his house arrest at the Bristol Plaza condominium on Manhattan's Upper East Side. But due to last minute arrangements, he had to stay in an apartment in lower Manhattan at the invitation of one of the building's residents.
