LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. on Wednesday said it named Jeffrey Katz chief executive officer and president, effective immediately.

The company, known for its LeapPad electronic learning toys, recently consolidated the president and CEO positions in an effort to realign its business after a string of disappointing results hurt its credibility with investors.

Katz, the 51-year-old founding chairman and CEO of online travel agency Orbitz LLC, succeeds Tom Kalinske, who will continue as vice chairman of the board, the company said.

Katz has already served for one year on LeapFrog's board.

LeapFrog shares closed at $10.29 on Monday on the New York Stock Exchange.
