“Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth and “Wrecking Ball” singer Miley Cyrus called off their engagement last September, about the same time the former Disney star’s career took off. Though there were rumors of infidelity, Hemsworth reportedly praised Cyrus recently.

The Australian hunk was overheard gushing about his former lover at restaurant Puny in Portofino, Italy, last week, a source told the New York Post’s Page Six. The “Hunger Games” star, 24, reportedly said he and the the twerking star will “always be best friends” and they had “an instantaneous and powerful connection.”

The source said: “Liam kept raving about how amazing she was, how much they clicked and understood everything about each other. He also said they bought a lot of furniture but he had to leave it behind when they broke up and he got his new place, which was furnished.”

The former couple, who met on the set of “The Last Song,” were plagued with cheating rumors before their ultimate split. Right after the two announced they were no longer together, Hemsworth was tied to model Eiza González after they were spotted kissing outside her apartment.

Cyrus insinuated Hemsworth cheated on her, and songs like “Wrecking Ball” and “F U” off the "Bangerz" album seem to display the pain she experienced while she was in a relationship.

Neither star has officially persued another relationship. Cyrus has continued to remain in the public eye as she performs on her “Bangerz” tour and through her constant updates to Twitter and Instagram.
