Apple is rumored to discontinue its MacBook Air lineup by releasing 11-inch and 13-inch variants of MacBook Pro 2016. Retailer sites like Best Buy and B&H Photo have started offering massive discounts on existing MacBook Air models. It indicates that retailers are trying to finish the remaining stocks of MacBook Air models.

Both Best Buy and B&H Photo are offering $150 discount on the 11-inch MJVM2LL/A model of MacBook Air. The notebook that usually carries a price tag of $899 is now available for $749. It comes with specs like Intel Core i5 CPU that clocks at 1.6 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. According to Apple Insider, B&H Photo is providing $100-$150 price cut on different variants of 11-inch MacBook Air.

The 13-inch MJVE2LL/A model of MacBook Air is available with a $150 discount on Best Buy and B&H Photo. It usually sells at $999, but the new price cut has reduced its cost to $849. It features an Intel Core i5 CPU, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. B&H Photo is also providing $100-$150 discounts on other models of 13-inch MacBook Air.

The iPad lineup was retired by releasing 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch iPad Pro models. Apple may retire MacBook Air by launching MacBook Pro 2016 in two sizes of 11 inches and 13 inches. The upcoming MacBook Pro 2016 will feature advanced specs whereas the 12-inch MacBook 2016 is expected to arrive with low-end specs.

The rumored 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Pro 2016 models are expected to sport slimmer form factor and resemble the 12-inch MacBook 2015 in appearance. As far as the 12-inch MacBook 2016 is concerned, its “early 2016” listing on the “System Image Utility” application of OS X indicates that it will be launched in the first four months of 2016. Since several retailers have limited stocks of 12-inch MacBook 2015, rumors are rife that its successor will be launched within this month.
