An argument over who could drink the last can of Pepsi led a Jersey City, N.J., man to stab his brother after his kin hit him in the head with a pipe.

Michael Charles and his unnamed 50-year-old brother were drinking while watching the NFC Championship game Sunday. Charles told officers who responded to the home that he became upset because the San Francisco 49ers were losing the game. When his brother reached for the last can of Pepsi, Charles allegedly told him “go f--- yourself” and hit him in the head with a pipe, according to the Jersey Journal.

The 50-year-old brother then responded by stabbing Charles in the chest with a small knife, Jersey City police officers told the Journal. Charles said he retaliated by stabbing his brother in the arm.

Police arrived at the home around 10:46 p.m. Sunday and found the 50-year-old with a cut and lump on the left side of his head and wounds to his chest, neck and upper abdomen, according to a police report obtained by the Journal. Police described the crime scene as “covered in blood.” The man was in stable condition as of Monday.

Charles was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. His brother fled the scene.
