With the January transfer window fast approaching, English champions Manchester United have targeted Brazilian club Santos' young playmaker, Ganso. The Red Devils believe that an offer in the region of £25 million will be enough to sign the youngster.

This news comes on the heels of reports that Ganso's club mate, Neymar, will join Real Madrid.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have been monitoring the 22-year-old Ganso for some time now and has been suitably encouraged by reports of his progress. However, he knows that his club aren't the only ones in pursuit of the talented midfielder. A number of other elite European clubs are also interested.

The Red Devils have been searching, for quite some time, the perfect player to fit retired legend Paul Scholes' shoes; they were previously linked to Samir Nasri, Luka Modric and Wesley Sneijder. Now, it seems, the Old Trafford club has set its sights on Ganso.

According to footballing pundits, Ganso has shown both excellent and consistent form over the last 18 months, cementing, in the process, his place in the Brazilian national team. If he does indeed move to England, United will hope that the presence of countrymen Fabio, Rafael and Anderson will help the player settle in quickly.

The young midfielder scored 21 times last season.
