Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted in-form defender Ryan Bennett, who plays for Championship club Peterborough United. Incidentally, Peterborough has been managed by Sir Alex's son, Darren Ferguson, since last January.

Darren has revealed that he previously talked to his father, who admitted to liking Bennett and was looking forward to bringing the player to Old Trafford. However, Darren also said that unless the club received a massive offer for the 21-year-old, he wasn't going anywhere.

Peterborough chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, later posted on his Twitter account: Had an interesting chat with gaffer. Seems his 'pops' could be in the mix with other clubs for a certain player.

According to a Caughtoffside report, Darren has stated that the club will ignore any kind of speculation for the player, at the moment.

Bennett joined Peterborough in 2010 from Grimsby Town for a speculated £1 million fee.
