Matt Lauer has been fighting to save his marriage to wife Annette Roque, but it looks like the fired NBC anchor has finally thrown in the towel. The journalist is reportedly gearing up to divorce his wife of 20 years, following sexual harassment accusations which resulted in his dismissal from the network.

Lauer’s marriage allegedly began to fall apart in November, when NBC revealed they were terminating the “Today” show anchor after receiving a complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.

Shortly after, Roque was spotted visiting a divorce attorney without her wedding ring. However, she did not file any legal documents.

Now though, a source tells Us Weekly the couple has decided to end their marriage. “They’ve started the divorce process,” the insider said.

The journalist allegedly believes a divorce will give him a clean slate. “He thinks he can start fresh in both his personal and professional life,” an insider said.

In a statement shortly after the announcement of his termination, Lauer apologized for his inappropriate behavior, but insisted some of the things said about him were “untrue or mischaracterized.”

Although the anchor went on to express his desire to focus on his family, a source told Us Weekly the journalist has plans to pick his career back up. “He thinks he’ll be back on TV at some point,” an insider stated.

In December, Roque’s father told the Daily Mail the model “is not going to stay” with her husband.

Divorce rumors have been surrounding the couple since the Dutch model took off her wedding ring and Lauer was spotted without his shortly after.

At the time, a source told People Roque was furious over Lauer’s alleged affairs, and no longer wanted to wear a symbol of their union.

The insider said the model was “angry, so she took off her ring. She wanted him to take off his ring, too.”

“The kids are noticing this, but they’re being very open about this and explaining everything,” the source added.

Although many believed Lauer was determined to save his marriage, it looks Iike the two have settled on divorce.

Lauer and Roque share three children together, Jack, 16, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11.
