KEY POINTS

  • Meghan Markle abandons her British citizenship application
  • Some Brit, Canadian and American Twitter users do not like Meghan Markle
  • Meghan Markle did not avoid the paparazzi in Canada

Meghan Markle abandons her British citizenship application as she moves to Canada with Prince Harry and Archie.

According to previous reports, Markle applied for British citizenship before she even married Prince Harry. However, following her and Prince Harry’s decision to step back from their royal roles, the couple moved to Canada with their child.

According to Michael Marziano, senior immigration lawyer at Westkin Associates, the U.S. citizen has to live in the U.K. with the British partner while the application is being processed to extend the visa. Thus, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have to live together in the U.K. permanently.

If there is a period throughout the first 2.5 years where they have not lived together in the U.K, then the government guidance states that there should be a good reason and it must be consistent with their intention to live in the U.K. permanently. Twitter users were quick to comment about Markle’s citizenship, with one saying it’s fine because the Brits don’t want her anyway.

“GOOD! BRITS DON'T WANT HER! Markle abandons bid to become British citizen after moving to Canada,” @grazia747 wrote on Twitter.

“Brits dont want her Canadians dont want to pay for her Americans dont want her South Anericans [sic] felt betrayed by her after she used them for her boo hoo poor me documentary so they prob dont want her Hmmmm where does that leave for M and H to live?“ @tips_talk added.

“What made madam ever think she was good enough to be amongst us Brits..one less moaner,” another user opined.

Meanwhile, Maribeth Crews said that she had the best time of her life when she was in England. “She has no idea what she’s missing,” she added.

“We understand Canada doesn't want her. To be sure the USA doesn't want either of them here creating international incidents,” Lola Dean commented.

In related news, many questioned the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to quit from their royal roles because they haven’t changed their relationship with the press. Several thought that they turned their back from the royal family to enjoy more privacy but just recently, photos of Markle smiling at the paparazzi while enjoying a walk with Archie and her pet dogs circulated online and royal fans didn’t like it. The duchess did not avoid the paparazzi which was ironic for someone who wanted to live a private life, according to her critics.
