François Arnaud as Manfred
In Season 1, episode 2 of “Midnight, Texas,” Manfred (François Arnaud) allows Aubrey’s (Shannon Lorance) ghost to borrow his body so she could show him what happened to her at the night of her murder. NBC

Manfred (François Arnaud) continues to be of help to his new neighbors in Season 1, episode 2 of “Midnight, Texas.”

According to the synopsis for the episode, Manfred tries to help Bobo (Dylan Bruce) clear his name by communicating with his murdered fiancée, Aubrey (Shannon Lorance). Bobo was arrested at the end of the series premiere after the cops discovered that the gun retrieved near where Aubrey’s body was found belongs to him.

In a sneak peek from the episode, Manfred goes back to his ghost-infested apartment with Joe (Jason Lewis) and Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley) in tow. Manfred finds Aubrey’s ghost in the kitchen and gives her permission to use his body to tell them what actually happened to her.

“Aubrey we need your help,” Manfred tells Aubrey’s ghost. “Bobo’s in jail. If he didn’t do it. I need you to show me who did. You can borrow my body.”

In another sneak peek, Manfred and Joe go to the Davis police station, where Manfred tells Sheriff Livingston (Sean Bridgers) what he found out from his latest encounter with Aubrey’s ghost. The psychic tells the sheriff that the man who killed Aubrey is likely a member of the biker gang Sons of Lucifer.

“There’s a Sons of Lucifer patch at the back of his jacket,” Manfred says of Aubrey’s murderer. “[He’s also wearing] this face mask that looks like skeleton.”

When the sheriff asks for more details, Manfred reveals: “The night Aubrey died she’d taken a walk, clearing her head. She didn’t know what to do. She wanted to tell Bobo she lied but she was scared. She didn’t want to lose him. A truck shows up. Right away she knows something is not right. She goes to the pistol at her back but that didn’t help her. A guy jumped from behind, took the gun, shot her with it. After that, she’s in and out of consciousness for a while. She remembers being at the back of the truck. She saw him toss the gun [into the river] and she was dragged to the river’s edge.”

While the sheriff acknowledges the possibility that Aubrey’s ghost has indeed told Manfred all of these, the cop isn’t ruling out the possibility that Manfred knows all of these because he’s the one who killed her. So Joe assures the sheriff that Manfred isn’t the murderer, saying: “He wouldn’t have come if he were involved.”

Aside from the things Manfred learns about the night Aubrey was killed, Entertainment Weekly reported that there won’t be other significant developments in the murder case in the next episode, as Manfred and other residents of the town are going to be busy dealing with another problem: Rev. Emilio Sheehan (Yul Vazquez). Rev. Sheehan is a weretiger, and as seen in the promo for the episode, it seems that he’s having difficulty controlling himself in his supernatural form.

“Midnight, Texas” Season 1, episode 2, titled “Bad Moon Rising,” airs on Monday, July 31 at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC. Watch the sneak peeks and promo for the episode below:
