Miley Cyrus Engaged To Liam Hemsworth: A Timeline Of Their Relationship [PHOTOS]

I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam, the 19-year-old singer told People magazine. Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus on May 31 with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring. And she said yes!

Cyrus shared her joy with her Twitter followers. Thank you for all the love today :) I'm happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true. Have a great day, she tweeted to her 5.8 million followers.

Her father also expressed his happines, posting, All I ever hoped for as a Daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness...peace of mind ...and someday know... true love. 

Cyrus and Hemsworth, 22, have been dating since 2009, when they costarred in the Nicholas Sparks film, The Last Song. 

The two denied engagement rumors back in March when Cyrus was spotted wearing what looked like an engagement ring, according to Us Weekly. I've worn this same ring on this finger since November! Cyrus tweeted to her followers.

But, clearly it was only a matter of time before the two decided to take the plunge.

How did their love begin? Here is a timeline of the romance between Miley Cyrus and fiancé Liam Hemsworth.

June 2009: In June 2009, Miley Cyrus first met actor Liam Hemsworth on the Tybee Island, Ga., set of the Nicholas Sparks flick, The Last Song. Cryus said that she developed a crush on the Aussie actor, making their interactions awkward. She paid co-star Bobby Coleman, who was 12-years-old at the time, $10 to find out if Hemsworth liked her too, according to Zimbio. I sent him back and forth. It was really funny, she said.

March 7, 2010: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth make their debut as a couple at a 2010 Academy Awards after-party. While on the red carpet, Cyrus reveals that she had been dating Hemsworth , referring to him as her boyfriend to E! News.

Late-March 2010: Cyrus and Hemsworth begin promoting The Last Song together.  She even opens up about the moment she knew Hemsworth was different. He opened the door for me. I was like, 'I have been in Los Angeles for three years and I don't think any guy has actually opened the door for me,' she said at the time.

April 2010: The Hannah Montana actress gushes about her beau to People magazine. I'm not really a big lovey person. I'm not, like, mushy. [But] Liam was the first person that made me want to be in a real relationship, she said in April. 

August 25, 2010: Rumors  began spreading that the couple had broken up in June but both vehemently denied it. Then, on August 25, 2010, Hemsworth's rep confirms to People magazine that the love had faded.

April 5, 2011: After eight months of being apart, Cyrus and Hemsworth rekindle their romance. Miley is so thrilled at her parents reconciling, and it made her stop and think, and realize that Liam is someone special in her life. Their feelings for each other never stopped, and now that their schedules are better suited for each other, they have been able to work it out. Plus her parents trust Liam, a source told Hollywood Life at the time. They started talking more at the same time Miley's parents were mending things. They started getting back together around Valentine's Day and are now back on as boyfriend and girlfriend.

December 11,2011: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth make their first red carpet appearance since getting back together at the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute event. Cyrus performed her hit The Climb.

January 12, 2012: The couple hits the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards looking debonair. Cyrus flaunted one of her best looks yet - a David Koma dress with Neil Lane studs, Jimmy Choo heels, and a Marchesa bag. She had a glow about her, as well. Prior to the show she tweeted: Can't wait for People's Choice with my boo today! Can't wait to watch him present =] Miley tweeted a few hours before the show. Hemsworth and his Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence hit the People's Choice Awards stage to present the award for Favorite TV Drama Actress.

January 24, 2012: The singer is photographed suggestively licking a penis-shaped birthday cake at her Hemsworth's birthday party. Guests at the party said she had been drinking copious amounts of alcohol and partying hard throughout Liam's birthday celebration. The former Disney star is still two years under the legal drinking age.

February 26, 2012: Cyrus and Hemsworth attend the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party together and ham it up for the cameras. Cyrus stunned in a Roberto Cavalli embroidered gown and red lipstick. She also showed off a short new haircut.

March 12, 2012: Miley Cyrus steps out to support her boyfriend at the Los Angeles premiere of 'The Hunger Games. Though Cyrus is used to the spotlight herself, she was happy to be there to support her boyfriend, saying that he is very excited about the role. I just have to be arm candy tonight. Cyrus had all eyes on her in a skin-baring Emilio Pucci ensemble paired with Christian Louboutin heels.  His mom made me wear stilts, Miley said. Her boyfriend's mom convinced her to wear sky-high stilettos to lessen the height difference. I'm like five feet, so I need my 'Liam shoes.'

March 24, 2012: The couple attend Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night together. A sparkly new ring worn on a certain finger of Cyrus' ignited engagement rumors for the first time. However, the pop singer was quick to dispel the gossip, saying that she had worn the topaz ring for months.

May 4, 2012: Cyrus adopts an abandoned puppy. She and Hemsworth are seen purchasing dog food and toys together at a local pet shop.  

May 20, 2012: Miley Cyrus attends the 2012 Billboard Music Awards wearing a decidedly risqué outfit by Jean Paul Gauliter. The look echoes Cyrus' new-found confidence as a grown woman. She previously opened up about sex on Lifetime's The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet, saying, People are so scared of seeing a woman being like, 'This is who I am and you're not going to change it.' Cyrus continued, Girls that really base what they're worth on the sexual favors that they can do for somebody... that makes me really sad, because sex actually is really beautiful. It's ignorant to not talk to your kids about it or to (not) make it seem as magical and cool as it actually is. They (teenagers) have a TV; they know what sex is... Educate them. Let them know that they wouldn't be here without it. It is a beautiful thing and it is magic and it is when you connect with somebody - and it isn't how much you're worth.

What happened happened, and we've been together ever since, Hemsworth said in an interview with Details magazine. She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you're filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you're not human if you don't feel something.
