The bodies of a New York couple who had been missing in the Dominican Republic for two weeks are believed to have been found, according to Dominican Republic authorities.

On March 27, Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle were supposed to be heading home, but they never made it to the airport, causing immediate concern from their family and friends. Moore's half-sister, Lashay Turner, reported him missing after not hearing from him two days after his expected return.

National Police Col. Frank Felix Duran Mejia reported to CNN on Wednesday that an unconscious woman fitting Ravenelle's description, but with no identification, was found on a road on March 27 that headed to the international airport in Santo Domingo. She died on April 4 after spending eight days at the local hospital in the intensive care unit.

And on March 31, a man was found at sea who fit Moore's description. Though his body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, a tattoo stating the word "Milano" was on the body's right arm. Family friend Francesca Figueroa confirmed Moore has a tattoo of his daughter's name, "Milan."

Duran Mejia said fisherman reported seeing a car in the ocean but authorities were unable to identify it. It is believed the couple got into a car accident while on the way to the airport. No foul play is expected.

The bodies have not been positively identified and autopsies are pending.
