Mitt Romney on Tuesday told reporters in Michigan that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is in fact being vetted as a potential candidate for vice president, according to reports.

Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process, Romney was quoted by Buzzfeed.

Earlier that day, ABC reported that sources said Rubio wasn't being vetted as a running mate for Romney. That report indicated that Rubio wasn't asked to complete any questionnaires or to hand over financial documents, a process typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.

However, Romney cleared things up when he said he couldn't imagine who told ABC otherwise.

But I can tell you this: They know nothing about the vice presidential selection or evaluation process, he said. There are only two people in this country who know who are being vetted and who are not: And that's Beth Myers and myself. And I know Beth well. She doesn't talk to anybody. The story was entirely false. Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process.

Prior to the recent announcement, Romney's camp has been pretty tight-lipped about the search. Rubio was just as mum, not spilling any details on whether he was being vetted.
