Verizon has officially confirmed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA for Motorola Droid Turbo will begin on July 1. The soak test of the firmware had started at the beginning of this week for Droid Turbo owners and finally the much-awaited update has arrived.

According to the tweet from Verizon’s PR team member, the update will not be available to all the Droid Turbo owners at once, but it will be released in phases until users receive it in the following weeks. Even though the Droid Turbo comes with flagship specs, the Verizon device is still running on Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The new firmware update will leapfrog the Android version to 5.1 Lollipop by skipping updates like Android 5.0 and Android 5.0.2. According to the changelog released by Motorola, the Android 5.1 Lollipop would bring the material design user interface, alerts on the lock screen, priorities, recent apps, battery saver mode, app pinning, flashlight, Android ART runtime, and more. Droid-Life claims that the guest mode feature and multiuser support are not available on the new firmware for the Droid Turbo handset.

Motorola recommends that users perform the update by using a Wi-Fi connection. It states that Droid Turbo owners will see a notification on the arrival of the new Android 5.1 firmware. To install the update, users need to confirm it by selecting “Yes, I’m in.”

The firmware will then start downloading. Once complete, users need to tap on “install now,” and the installation process will begin. When finished, the device will restart with Android 5.1 Lollipop onboard. Alternatively, users can check the arrival of the Android 5.1 firmware by going to Settings > About phone > System update > Check For Update.

The Motorola Droid Turbo is exclusively sold by Verizon in the U.S. It was released in October 2014 with specs that could take on the likes of Galaxy Note 5 and iPhone 6 Plus. The features of the Droid Turbo includes 5.2 inches Super AMOLED screen with Quad HD resolution support, Snapdragon 805 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 21MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, a 2MP front-facing camera and a massive 3,900 mAh battery.
