Mummies will never go out of fashion. Although Brendan Fraser isn’t there in the new “Mummy” movie, Tom Cruise has his work cut out for him. Universal Pictures released the second trailer of the action-packed film in which Cruise plays Nick Morton, a man that accidentally awakens an ancient, evil Egyptian princess.

Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) was sleeping in her crypt beneath the desert before Morton and archeologist Jenny Hasley (Annabelle Wallis) unwittingly woke her up. We learn a little bit about the vengeful princess’ backstory and Morton’s surprising resurrection in the new trailer.

Below are three major takeaways of the video:

Ahmanet’s Past

Ahmanet may be a scorned mummy but there is more to her story than what meets the eye. She was once chosen to be Egypt’s next queen but her thirst for power led her to a dark path. It was important to stop her. Hence, she was mummified and buried in a 2,000-year-old tomb which is actually a prison. Yikes.

Tom Cruise Dies?

Morton and Hasley transport this ancient mummy in a plane. Unfortunately, the plane crashes mysteriously and Morton dies. Shockingly, he is resurrected by Ahmanet for a reason.

Gravity-Defying Sequences

It’s no surprise that Ahmanet wants to destroy the world and remake it as she sees fit. The evil princess has plans and unimaginable powers. The trailer shows glimpses of Cruise in gravity-defying situations.

The Mummy” also stars Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, Jake Johnson as Sgt. Vail and Courtney B. Vance as Colonel Gideon Forster. It is directed by Alex Kurtzman and the movie is a part of Universal Pictures’ monster universe.

Several fans of the original “Mummy” series are disappointed that Fraser isn’t a part of the rebooted version.

“The Mummy” hits theatres on June 9.
