National Girlfriends Day is celebrated on Aug.1 to express love for the women in your life, be it your significant other or your best friend. Though this day is not a public holiday in the U.S., yet is popular on social media for recognizing female friends in your life or expressing love for your girlfriend.

There is no specific origin of this day and no rule as to how this day must be celebrated. For social media users, this day could be an excuse to step out with your female friend or your love to enjoy some drinks, as a way of thanking them for being there in your life.
