Mean Girls
Oct. 3 is National Mean Girls Day. Paramount Pictures

Happy National Mean Girls Day! Ten years ago, “Mean Girls,” written by Rosalind Wiseman and Tina Fey, hit theaters and became an instant classic. The flick, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, told the story of Cady Heron (Lohan), a new student who joins the A-list girls at her new school – “The Plastics.” Although the movie was released in April 2004, fans celebrate the holiday on Oct. 3. Why? We’ll let Cady explain:

“On Oct. 3, he asked me what day it was,” Cady says in “Mean Girls,” referring to her crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett).

So, what did Cady do next? Tell him what day it was, of course!

“It’s Oct. 3,” Cady responded.

To celebrate “Mean Girls” Appreciation Day, we compiled a list of ways fans can pay tribute to The Plastics and the movie on this day:

Wear Pink

As every “Mean Girls” fan knows, The Plastics wear pink on Wednesdays. Unfortunately Oct. 3 doesn’t fall on a Wednesday this year, but we’re sure Cady, Regina (McAdams), Gretchen (Lacey Chabert) and Karen (Amanda Seyfried) won’t mind if you rock the color on a Friday.

Spread The Word: Fetch

Don’t let Regina stop you from trying to make “fetch happen.” Make sure you spread the word on the holiest of days -- wish everyone a “fetch day.”

Watch ‘Mean Girls’

We’ve got some terrible news for Netflix subscribers. The streaming service removed “Mean Girls” on Oct. 1. “Mean Girls 2” is available for streaming – although I think many fans of the original movie will agree that it’s not the “groolest” sequel. Fingers crossed you own the movie – if not, Walmart is selling it for $4.90.

Sign The “Mean Girls 2” Petition

Yes, a “Mean Girls 2” already exists, but fans are desperate for a reunion of the original cast. Even Lindsay Lohan revealed that she would be interested in a reboot.

“People really love the movie: How do you top that?” Lohan told Time Out London in mid-September. “I was with Tina Fey the other day and I said we should do another ‘Mean Girls,’ like an older version where they’re all housewives and they’re all cheating. That would be really funny. I’ll harass Tina to write it.”

But Whatever You Do …

Do NOT have sex on Oct. 3 – “because you will get pregnant and die.”
