Dwight Howard is delighted to be getting a second chance with the Los Angeles Lakers and this time around he insists that he will let his actions more than his words do the talking. The eight-time All-Star was signed by the Lakers in August after DeMarcus Cousins suffered an ACL injury during a practice game which is likely to keep him out for the entire 2019-20 season.

The 33-year-old has spent time with Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and most recently with Washington Wizards after that one ill-fated season with the Lakers during the 2012-13 campaign. He is viewing his return to Los Angeles as a blessing and as a chance to put certain things right by being the “best teammate and person”.

“I’d rather show you guys than say it,” Howard said talking to the press, as quoted on the Los Angeles Times. “So, I’d rather my actions be something you can critique instead of just on words. I’ve always said a lot of words, but I’d just rather show you guys.”

“It’s a very big blessing to be able to come back here and play,” the center added. “Not too often in life you get a second chance or anything like that. This is an awesome experience. I’m looking forward to just being the best teammate, the best person in the community, the best I can be for this franchise. This is going to be an amazing time. Six years ago doesn’t seem like a long time, but a lot of things have happened.”

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year, who has been signed on a one-year veteran’s minimum contract, admitted that he hit rock bottom on a personal level, which have made him stronger as a person. Moreover, he made it clear that he is committed to win a championship with the Lakers like every other player on the roster.

“We’re trying to win a championship,” Howard said. “And you know, I think that everybody wants to know what level of commitment that I have, and what everybody else on the team has. So, I definitely understand it."

“I’m very committed to helping this team win a championship. It’s not just an interest of mine. It’s something that I’m super-committed to. And I’d rather just let my actions speak louder than any words that I can tell you. Let me kind of keep it short and sweet.”
