Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki was named the NBA Finals MVP for his performance throughout the series against the Miami Heat as the Mavericks beat the Heat 105-95 in Game 6.

Nowitzki overcame a 1 for 12 performance in the first half to score 21 points in the final game.

Nowitzki also had 24 points and 11 rebounds in a pivotal Game 2 despite a hurt finger. Nowitzki made a clutch shot in the final seconds of the game to put Dallas ahead.

Nowitzki was consistent in the other games scoring 27 points in Game 1, 34 points in Game 3, 21 points in Game 4 despite an illness, and 29 points in Game 5.

Nowitzki and the Mavericks shook off their reputation as playoff losers by winning their first ever NBA title in team history.

The Miami Heat were heavily favored going into the series with stars like Lebron James and Dwyane Wade, both who were expected to compete for the NBA Finals MVP. However, the tandem couldn't get it done down the stretch, losing the final three games of the series.
